In part two of our Understanding Enterprise E911 series, Josh Burch explains section 506 of RAY BAUM'S Act and how that impacts E911.
Section 506 of RAY BAUM’S Act states that a dispatchable location must be included when a 911 call is sent to a public safety answering point (PSAP). A dispatchable location means a combination of a valid civic address (i.e., street, city, state, ZIP) in conjunction with additional location information that describes in more detail where that caller is located. Those additional details might include a suite, apartment, or office number.
A large office building or campus might have a civic address that only gets first responders to the front door or main building. However, with RAY BAUM’S Act, a much more granular location within the building or campus is required. That could be a desk, office, or conference room location. This granularity allows first responders to pinpoint where exactly a call is coming from so that they can respond to an incident quickly and efficiently. And it applies to employees who work remotely as well as in the office.
