Definition:
Time Division Multiple Access. A method of digital wireless communications transmission allowing a large number of
users to access, in sequence, a single radio frequency channel without interference by allocating unique time slots to
each user within each channel. As many as three time slots can be assigned to each frequency channel, allowing for
three times the capacity of current analog systems. The cellular phone sends bursts, or packets, of information during
each time slot. These packets are reassembled by the receiving equipment into the original voice components.
