Alternate Routing

Definition:

A method by which 9‐1‐1 calls are routed to a designated alternate location if all IEN or wireless lines to the primary PSAP are busy, or the primary PSAP is closed for a period of time. A second or subsequent choice path between two points usually consists of two or more trunk groups in tandem. This term (or alternate routing) is also used as a verb
to define the act of selecting an alternate route.

Alternate PSAP

An Alternate PSAP is designated to receive 9‐1‐1 calls if the call cannot be delivered to the primary PSAP.
